Confirmation

Baptism, the Eucharist, and the sacrament of Confirmation together constitute the Sacraments of Christian initiation.  The Sacrament of Confirmation is necessary for the completion of baptismal grace. Like Baptism, Confirmation is given only once, for it too imprints on the soul an indelible spiritual mark, the “character,” which is the sign that Jesus Christ has marked a Christian with the seal of the Holy Spirit.

--From the Catechism of the Catholic Church

The Catechism lists five effects of Confirmation:
  • It affirms our identity as children of God (divine filiation).
  • It unites us more firmly to Christ.
  • It increases the gifts of the Holy Spirit in us.
  • It strengthens our bond with the Church.
  • It strengthens us to spread and defend the Faith by our words and actions as fearless witnesses to Christ and the power of the Cross.

Our Confirmation Program brings together high school junior students from our parish cluster of St. Anne in Somerset, Assumption of East Farmington, and St. Joseph in Osceola.  We gather every nearly every Wednesday night from 7:00-8:30 p.m.

The celebration of Confirmation with the Bishop of the Diocese of Superior is typically held sometime from late April to the end of May.

Susie and Austin Anderson help Confirmation candidates explore the ways in which the Holy Spirit is currently working in their lives and helps prepare them to receive an increase of gifts from the Holy Spirit:  the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of right judgment and courage, the spirit of knowledge and reverence, and the spirit of holy fear in God’s presence.

The candidates perform church and community service hours, take Mass homily notes, and participate in a retreat.  The purpose for these activities is to help develop the God-given gifts needed for spiritual growth.

Please contact Austin or Susie Anderson if you have any questions regarding Confirmation or would like to enroll:  [email protected] or the parish office at 715-247-3310 or Fr. Joseph 715-371-1235.
